NEWS | Club Doncaster Foundation awarded grant to aid the growth of rugby league

The Club Doncaster Foundation is set to receive £10,000 from the CreatedBy Rugby League World Cup 2021 capital grants programme.

Delivered in partnership between RLWC2021, the sport’s national governing body, the Rugby Football League, Sport England and the department for digital, culture, media & sport, the CreatedBy programme is a funding pot of up to £10million made available by the government to support the legacy of the Rugby League World Cup by growing participation in the sport.

The grant will fund the new maintenance and training equipment for the Club Doncaster Sports College rugby league team, with some of the money will be used to purchase a new tractor which will help maintain the playing surface of the College pitch.

New rugby posts and a line marker will be purchased, while the college team will also be using CreatedBy training equipment, including balls, cones, bibs and tackle shields which were part of the funding bid.

Club Doncaster Sports College coach Martin Rowlands said: “We are extremely grateful to have been awarded the grant from CreatedBy RLWC2021 capital grants programme. It will allow us to have our very own playing facility, rather than relying on using community club facilities as we have done in the past.

“We finally have a place we can call home and the maintenance equipment that’s been purchased will keep the playing area in perfect condition.

“The extra training equipment we will receive will also give us the opportunity to take our students to the next level in terms of development. The long-term aim is to increase the number of students playing rugby league in Doncaster and I believe creating our new home, with the help of the funding, will go a long way towards achieving this.”
