NEWS | Dons deliver rugby league sessions to local schools

Dons star and Papa New Guinea international Watson Boas has been supporting delivery of legacy project coaching sessions to young students across Doncaster as the town prepares to host three Rugby League World Cup matches this October and November.

Boas was recently at St Peter’s Catholic Primary School coaching a year 5 class as part of their Sports Week.

“It’s been brilliant going into schools and engaging young people in the sport we love,” said Doncaster legacy officer Martin Rowlands.

“We really want the Rugby League World Cup to have a lasting legacy for the sport in Doncaster and we hope that by giving young people a taste of the sport in their schools will help increase participation numbers across the borough as well as giving more people the chance to watch live games.”

Boas’ PNG have a clash with Wales at the Keepmoat Stadium on November 8 at 7.30pm while Doncaster will also host France vs Greece (2.30pm, October 25) and Samoa vs Greece (5pm, October 31).

“We’ve got three exciting games at the Keepmoat Stadium and it would be great if the excitement of the world cup can reach first time fans as well as longtime supporters of rugby league,” Martin added.

“We have a game in half-term too so it would be great to see families enjoying that one and it will be great for Dons supporters to see one of their own players performing on the world stage too.”
