NEWS | Spiers pens new Dons deal

Forward Russ Spiers has become the latest player to agree a new deal with the Dons for the 2021 season.

The 29-year-old prop has been a crucial part of the team since returning for a second spell at the Keepmoat Stadium in 2017.

Spiers has racked up more than 160 appearances during his time with the Dons, and his experience in the pack will be key next season.

Chief executive Carl Hall said: “Russ has been with the club for a number of years now and is a player we’re happy to keep here.

“He sets a great example to his team mates on the field and is somebody who will never take a backward step. His fitness levels are a big factor in why we wanted him to stay, he has the longevity to play plenty of games next season. 

“It’s a credit to Russ that negotiations went so smoothly in what are challenging times for everyone in the sport.”
