Kevin Jones' best Dons XIII

Kevin Jones has named his Dons best XIII and included a few stories about each of them!

Kevin Jones has named his Dons best XIII and included a few stories about each of them!

1 - Jonny Green

Safe as houses but don’t get a lift home with him because when you say drop me off on motorway meaning a junction, he literally threw me out down an embankment! Happy days…

2 - Mark Roach RIP

What a player but mad as box of frogs who nearly burnt my flat down!  God bless him.

3 - Audley Pennant

Great finisher, great talker but forever on my back … thankfully!

4 - Tony Kemp

He would be at 6 but I'm there and Carl Hall would be 4 what a coup to get Tony was in a different class but Shag (John Sheridan ) was still going chop his foot off if he kicked another ball.

5 - Neil Turner

Unbelievable finisher - I don’t think Neil knew how good he was. He could have made GB in my opinion

6 - Me!

7 - Ian Birkby

I watched him make his debut at Castleford when he was 16 (yes, Ian I paid to watch you … or not because I had my uncle’s life membership card)! He was was a pleasure to play with and the best half back partner alongside Mark Conway that I played with.

8 - Kev “Parky” Parkhouse RIP

The gentle giant and the only prop I know to score 15 tries and not go that many yards for them all … legend!

9 - Mark Gibbon

What a grafter. A great talker and part of the Asken mafia that changed the future of the Dons.

10 - Ian Hartley

Unbelievable ball handler, great organiser and pleasure to have played with him at Castleford, Dons and  GB colts.

11 - Keith Jones

(Controversial selection being my brother, but he'll hit me if I don’t pick him).

Despite a programme picture saying we were twins he is three years older than me.

12 - Dave Noble

Na then old lad!  Mr Doncaster and legend is worth it for Dave who put me in for my finest moment when we defeated HKR still had 75 metres to go and beat 3 internationals but still reminds of his pass again. Legend!

13 - Andy Timpson

What can I say about Andy except that he was one of the best guys for team morale and bonding. What he wouldn’t do for a laugh! He always gave everything on the field, a great protector of his half backs even though it cost him a few suspensions.

14

Could be one of many and hard to leave out so many great guys, friends and team-mates so I'm going to say any of the guys I've played with at Doncaster … thank you!

15 - Alan Carr

Another of the Askern mafia would have been at 11 if it wasn’t for our kid. Great guy but didn't know what any of the moves were most of the time!

16 - Sonny Whakarau

He would be in anyone's starting 13, but I only got to play with him for a short time before being moved on. I would have loved him running off me out wide.

17 - Vila Matautia

The same as Sonny - I would have loved to play with Vila more than I did. He was a man mountain went on to achieve everything he deserved.

We’d be coached by the legend that is John Sheridan who changed the Dons fortunes around – RIP.

I also want to add a shout out to all the backroom staff that were influential throughout my time at the Dons … thank you!
