NEWS | West Wales Raiders (H) match preview

The Dons will be looking for their first league win of the season when they take on West Wales Raiders at the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday.

Richard Horne’s side were narrowly beaten by Barrow Raiders in their opening game of the new season last weekend.

West Wales were also defeated in their first league game, as they went down 50-10 to Hunslet at Stebonheath Park.

Who’s the gaffer?

The Raiders appointed Aaron Wood as their new head coach ahead of the 2020 Betfred League One season, replacing Kim Williams who left the club to take up a role at Super League side Huddersfield Giants.

Wood has recently enjoyed coaching spells with Paramatta Eels, St George Illawarra Dragons’ U20 side, Toulouse Olympique and the French national side.

Ones to watch

Phillip Cowburn

The experienced full-back agreed to sign for a third year with the Raiders at the start of the 2020 campaign. Cowburn joined the club in 2018, after impressing for Gloucestershire All Golds in Betfred League One. He was one of the standout players in the Raiders’ debut season in the third tier.

Rowland Kaye

Kaye is capable of playing in a number of positions and was used in the back-row for the Raiders’ opening game of the season against Hunslet. He initially joined the club at the start of 2018 in it’s inaugural campaign, and has been a part of their development ever since.

Mitch Shaw

The Australian hooker joined the club in 2019 from Coventry Bears and agreed an extended stay at the start of this season. His previous experience in Betfred League One could prove to be key as the Raiders look to develop further.

Who’s the ref?

Nick Bennett will be the man in charge when the Dons take on West Wales on Sunday.

Last time out

The Dons ran out comfortable 72-0 winners when the two sides last met in July 2019. Richard Horne’s side ran in 14 unanswered tries including four from winger Sam Doherty.
