NEWS | Horne: momentum starting to build

10th September 2019

Richard Horne believes the Dons are building momentum at a crucial time as they head towards the Betfred League One play-offs.

Horne’s side beat Workington Town 30-4 on the final day of the regular season to secure a fourth-placed finish.

He said: “We wanted to back up last week’s performance and the focus was on building some momentum particularly with the way we defend.

“There was a lot of intent in the things we did and that helped us force errors and get ourselves into good field position.

“The first try came from us building pressure and finishing sets on our terms, we waited for them to leave a gap and took advantage.”

Finishing fourth means the Dons face a trip to Newcastle in the first round of the play-offs, and Horne says they will have to show further improvements to get another positive result.

He added: “If we can continue to show improvements and perform well at Newcastle then we’ll give ourselves every chance of winning the game.

“The challenge is there for a boys and we can’t just be happy with what we’ve done so far, we have to keep getting better.”
