Only one direction of travel for the Dons in 2027

Doncaster Rugby League Chairman Terry Bramall, Club Doncaster Chief Executive Gavin Baldwin and Dons Chief Executive Carl Hall have met with the Rugby Football League (RFL) to discuss what the 2027 season will look like for the club.

The meeting follows a season in which the Dons delivered on and off the pitch. On the field, the team’s performances met the ambitions the club set out before a ball was kicked. Off it, the work taking place across the club was recognised by IMG, with the Dons recording the second highest IMG grading increase in a single season of any club across the whole of rugby league.

That progress has left the club with a clear view of where it wants to go next, with its sights firmly set on Super League.

During the meeting, Bramall stressed the importance of clarity. As a club with a defined ambition, the Dons need to understand the RFL’s plans for the 2027 season in order to plan with confidence and build on this year’s progress.

Bramall said: “I am immensely proud of what Doncaster Rugby League achieved this year. Before the 2026 season began, everyone at the club sat down together and agreed what we wanted to achieve, and we have delivered it, both on the pitch and off it. That is a credit to our players, our staff and, above all, our supporters and the people of Doncaster, who have stood behind this club every step of the way.

“Doncaster Rugby League has only one direction of travel, and that is Super League. But before we can put our plans in place, we need the RFLto define the structure of the competition for 2027 and the opportunities that will be open to clubs like ours. Once we have that, we will be ready to act.”

Planning for 2027 is already under way behind the scenes. Internal meetings have taken place across the club, including hospitality, commercial, communications and community, with each department reviewing what worked in 2026 and where the club can go further. Those plans will be put into action once the RFL confirms the structure of next season.

The club will share more on the 2027 season with supporters as soon as it is able to.
