Dons welcome experienced Fiji-born winger Mitieli Vulikijapani

We are delighted to confirm the signing of experienced winger Mitieli Vulikijapani on a one-year deal.

The Fijian's arrival see's Head Coach Richard Horne add further strength, depth and experience to his squad as the Dons continue to build momentum in the Betfred Championship.

The 31-year-old has gained vital experience throughout his professional career, making 24 appearances at Super League’s Hull F.C, scoring eight tries.

He also impressed during a loan spell at Championship side Bradford Bulls and has represented Fiji at international level.

Speaking of joining the Dons, Vulikijapani said: “I’m very pleased. My former teammate was telling me how good Doncaster is, about the fans and the atmosphere at the club, so I’m looking forward to it. 

“I was given the opportunity to play rugby league for my previous club and now for Donny, so I’m happy to be here and to continue my career. 

“I’ll bring positivity to the group. I know a few of the players here, the boys have welcomed me, the coaches and management too, so I’m looking forward to the season.”

Alongside his rugby career, Vulikijapani proudly serves as a gunner in the British Army with the 47th Regiment Royal Artillery and has been granted permission to play rugby. 

Horne is confident the dual commitment will be a success: “He’s had it all his career. He’s been at a few clubs where it’s worked. 

“We’ve spoke to him, we’ve spoke to people involved with him and we’ve got the reassurances that he’ll be available. 

“He’s looking to get started and involved with the club and he’s got the same ambitions we have.”

Vulikijapani could feature in this weekend’s trip to Batley Bulldogs where the Dons look to build on recent performances following the start of the season.
