Dons add two new medical personnel to bolstered backroom
We are pleased to confirm the strengthening of the Dons backroom team with the addition of two new medical personnel ahead of the start of the 2026 campaign.
Kay Holmes has joined the club as sports rehabilitator while Leanne McPherson arrives as sports therapist.
The pair both possession extensive experience and expert knowledge along with a shared commitment to elevating the physical preparation and resilience of the squad.
The determination to secure Super League rugby in the near future has been no secret, with the expansion of the playing squad, additions to the coaching staff and plans in place for the development of the club off the field. Providing the infrastructure to support a larger playing squad will be key to success, which includes a strong and deep medical department.
Holmes and McPherson will be supported by Elena Vulpe, who will continue in her sports rehabilitator role to ensure the players receive elite-level care before, during and after matches.
Chief executive Carl Hall said: “We’ve invested in the squad, and the boys have been fantastic throughout pre-season to make sure they’re ready for the start.
“But as a club, we know it’s never just about what happens on the pitch. Success is built in every minute before and after the whistle, and that’s why we’re investing in the rest of the staff as well.
“We want to give the Dons the biggest possible chance of reaching the Super League, and that means ensuring our players have elite-level support every single day.”
“Kay and Leanne are incredible assets to this club. They provide safety, stability and specialist expertise. Injuries and knocks are part of rugby league, but we’re confident that the addition of Kay and Leanne, alongside Elena, gives the lads the best opportunity to stay fit, strong and able to go the distance in a demanding Championship season as we chase our goals.”
The Dons begin their 2026 Betfred Championship campaign by hosting Halifax Panthers at the Eco-Power Stadium on January 18.
