Glover had only Dons in mind if he was to move for 2026

James Glover admits if his future was to lie away from Post Office Road, there was only one location he wanted to land.

And after departing Featherstone Rovers, the centre got his wish with a move to the Dons on a two-year contract.

“I always said that if I wasn’t going to stay at Featherstone, there was only one other club that I’d want to get involved with,” Glover said. “People that I know here and that I’ve spoken to speak very highly of the club and say you get well looked after.

“That was one of the main reasons that I came here. There’s a bit of a personal connection too with my wife and all her family being from Doncaster.

“But it’s also the project as well. The players they already had and the calibre of players that are coming in. It’ll be a really exciting year for myself and the team.

“It’s a project that I’m really excited to be a part of. With the players in the squad there’s no reason why we can’t be challenging right up at the top of the table.”

The 31-year-old has made more than 120 appearances in the Championship.

And while the competition will have a fresh format for 2026, he is looking forward to passing on the benefits of his experience next term.

“I’ve been in this league for more than ten years now so I know the ins and outs of it,” he said.

“But the league is changing as well. It’s a new competition with new teams so it’ll be interested to see how it all plays out.

“Consistency is always a big thing. When you look at the league table last season, the club wasn’t that far off. The teams that finished above them probably won against Doncaster rather than Doncaster winning against them.

“You need to knock those teams off to take their positions. and that’s exactly what we’ll be looking to do next season.”
