Sam Smeaton signs up for seventh season with Dons

We are delighted to confirm that Sam Smeaton has signed a new one-year contract with the Dons.
The 2026 campaign will be the 37-year-old’s seventh at the club. Since joining, Doncaster-born Smeaton has made more than 100 appearances, scoring 44 tries.
“I enjoy my time here, it’s a really good club,” he said. “Every year that I’ve been here things have just got better and better and I think what we’re building is going to be something really special.
“The sky is the limit. A lot of it’ll be past my career but I think this club is really going places and the fans need to get excited about it.”
Smeaton arrived at the Dons ahead of the 2020 campaign and captained the club to promotion in 2023.
The centre previously featured for Featherstone Rovers, Sheffield Eagles, Halifax Panthers and Batley Bulldogs.
Head coach Richard Horne said: “Sam has been an incredible servant for this club and was outstanding over the last 12 months.
“We could easily have looked beyond him but how he has been in matches, training and off the pitch has been exemplary. He fully deserves this new deal and I’m sure he’ll play a big part in everything we’re doing in 2026.”
