Horne 'couldn't pass up chance to sign Jones'

Richard Horne said he could not miss the opportunity to bring Connor Jones to the club.

The Australian hooker has signed a two-year deal with the Dons after leaving Featherstone Rovers.

And Horne said he jumped at the chance to speak to Jones when it became clear he would available heading into 2026.

“The chance to bring in someone like Connor is not something you turn down,” head coach Horne said. “As soon as we got a whisper that he might be available, we were straight on it.

“As we’d have expected, there was a lot of interest in him, including from Super League.

“It says a lot about what we’re doing here that he’s chosen to join us. We talked about the plans and the ambition for the future of the club and he really bought into it.

“What was really pleasing is how much he knew about the club and the squad when he came to speak to us. He’s obviously come up against us quite a lot over the years but he’d also spoken to some of the lads about what it’s like here.

“He showed straight away that he was bought into what we’re all about and what we’re trying to achieve and that’s massive - on top of being a quality player.

“This is a really good addition for us and he’ll help to bring us on in many ways.”
