Jones confident of play-off charge for Dons

Connor Jones is convinced the Dons have what it takes to compete at the top end of the Betfred Championship in 2026.

The hooker has made more than 130 Championship appearances since arriving from his native Australia.

And having faced the Dons on multiple occasions for previous club Featherstone Rovers, he is confident he will be part of a side battling for the play-offs next term.

“I thought Donny were going to be there or thereabouts in the season that’s just gone,” the 29-year-old said. “A few injuries probably just meant they burned themselves out at the end.

“But with retaining most of the squad and then with the additions as well, there’s no reason why we can’t be up there at the top next season and seeing where we can go from there.

“I’m really confidence in the team. Obviously it’s a long season and things can happen along the way but there’s no reason why we can’t be up there at the end of next year.

“I’ve been in the Championship for a number of years now so I know what it’s about and I’ve played against most of the teams.

“With it changing next year, merging with League 1, there’s going to be a lot more teams in there so it’s going to be exciting.

“I’m a fairly experienced Championship player so hopefully I can bring some of that experience across and help out with Donny next year.”
