The Dons are delighted to confirm the signing of Andrew Gill following a successful trial period with the club.

The move sees the 18-year-old return to South Yorkshire after starting his career at community club Dearne Valley Bulldogs ARLFC, before being picked up as a scholar by Huddersfield Giants. 

Gill found the try line twice in seven appearances for the Giants U18s in 2024, while also scoring three times in two appearances in the Reserves Championship.

The hooker featured for the Dons against Sheffield Eagles in pre-season and was also the 18^th man as a trialist in the Betfred Challenge Cup Second Round tie against Bradford Bulls in January 2025.

Head coach Richard Horne said: “Gilly is a young kid who’s just come out of the academy game. He’s got a lot to learn, but we’ve seen the signs that he’s very quick out of the nine and can be very deceptive.

“We can work on his physicality, and hopefully he can grow with us throughout the season because he’ll get his chance at some point.

“Quick plays are going to be his strength. We’ve had a few sessions with him already where he’s caused our lads a few problems, so it’s just about us having the confidence to put him in, and I’m sure that’ll come throughout the year.”

The Dons’ newest recruit, Gill, said: “I’m delighted to have finally completed the move here.

“I’ve worked hard during my time on trial, and I’m glad that I’ve made an impression that’s earned me a contract.

“I’m grateful to Rich and everyone at the club for giving me the opportunity, and I can’t wait to repay that faith.”
