INTERVIEW | Horne reacts to big win over Widnes Vikings

Doncaster RLFC coach Richard Horne was delighted to sign off from the Eco-Power Stadium with a victory on Sunday afternoon as his side beat Widnes Vikings 30-14 in South Yorkshire.

Tries from Reece Lyne, Connor Robinson, Luke Briscoe and Bureta Faraimo were enough to overcome a Widnes side that had defeated the Dons twice in 2024. However, it was Horne's men who had the last laugh, putting a dent in the Vikings' playoff charge whilst picking up another big win with the season heading into its twilight stages.

In Horne's eyes, his team executed their gameplan to a tee and dominated the contest from the get-go. Proud of the way the Dons built a platform and competed in all those effort areas that go a long way, Horne was beaming with pride when speaking after the clash in Doncaster.

"I thought we started really well. We spoke about playing the conditions so we tightened things up and had to kick really well. We did that, putting Widnes in pockets and forcing errors. We worked hard in defence and completed our game plan. We took two points on offer at times which we haven't done at times. But we got points on the board and ticked over.

"We've got a lot to work on. There's been times this season when we've lost by a few and if that wasn't the case we could have made the playoffs. But, we haven't and we have to finish a great season strong. We're in the league next year and that was the goal."

Providing an injury update, Horne's focus was on Ben Johnston, who left the field early on his return after looking bright in attack: "It's a reoccurring one for Ben. It was a bit of a gamble with the season coming to an end, he wanted to have a go but unfortunately, it's flared up again. We lost Greg Burns and Brad Knowles as well but the boys saw the game out."
