INTERVIEW | Horne reacts to huge Dons win over high-flying Toulouse

Richard Horne hailed his team as Doncaster RLFC produced their best performance of the season to upset the odds and defeat Toulouse Olympique 20-18 at the Eco-Power Stadium on Saturday evening.

A last-gasp winner from Craig Hall saw the Dons get one over the French side and move back into the playoff spots in the Betfred Championship.

For Horne, he ran out of superlatives for the way his team defended and stuck together when under the cosh and wants them to soak up the win, but not get too carried away. Although they’ve knocked off one of the league’s best, the coach knows plenty of rugby is still to be played between now and the end of the season, and wants to use the victory over Toulouse as a catalyst moving forward.

“It was brilliant. Look, I’m so proud of the boys we spoke all week about energy. Take each 10-minute spell as it is and I can’t fault anyone. Defensively we were great. In attack, we turned over too many cheap errors. We scrambled so well and we dealt with their shifts. They threw a lot at us, then dug deep. We spent most of the time defending and scored when we needed to. We committed numbers to the ruck to slow them down, they’re so fast and our middles were outstanding.

“Everyone has to be good to keep their spot. We have to be good next week now against Whitehaven. Craig Hall got the winner and it was planned you could say! He always gives himself an opportunity to score! It looks like a sub masterclass but he did well to be in that position. We could have been hard done by, their last try was a mile forward but we dug in and got a fantastic result. We move onto Whitehaven now and go get the result. Let’s look up and push for these playoffs.”
