INTERVIEW | Dons had fun in Featherstone win says Faraimo

Dons winger Bureta Faraimo says his side “couldn’t have asked for a better response” as they returned to winning ways in emphatic style against Featherstone Rovers.

The United States international secured a brace at the Millennium Stadium as further tries from Brad Hey and Reece Lyne secured victory against the 2023 League Leaders’ Shield winners.

Following their routine victory in WF7, the Dons number 30 paid credit to the teams response behind the scenes.

“It was a great win and an even better performance,” Faraimo said. “I thought it was pretty straightforward and we got everything that we wanted from the game.

“We just stripped it right back in our preparation this week and we just wanted to have a bit of fun because it felt like there was no pressure on us.

“That was our main focus but we also wanted to work hard so that’s what we did to get the result that we all wanted.

“I don’t think we could’ve asked for a better response to last week and to be honest, Rich has to take most of the credit for it.

“Rich was as down as we all were after what happened last week and he just stripped it right back because in times like that, we just needed to go and have some fun – so that’s what we did.

“We worked hard in training on Friday and the game pretty much showed that and you could see there was no pressure on us with how much freedom we had.”

Despite playing a starring role in the Dons victory, Faraimo paid credit to the work of his teammates over recent weeks.

He said: “It's good for all of us to be getting the tries in again and I’m also happy to get some of my own, but I wouldn't have been able to do it without the boys.

“We’ve stuck together over the last few weeks and we’ve seen how massive that can be because it’s really paid off with this win.

“Our defence was pretty good altogether as well and although it wasn't a totally perfect performance, I reckon we can give ourselves a pat on the back a bit after today.”

With the Dons set to return to the Eco-Power Stadium for the first time in eight weeks on Sunday, July 28, Faraimo dedicated his side’s win to their travelling fans.

“The fans who've travelled with us this past couple of months deserve so much credit – this win was for them.

“We can't wait to see them at home next week and repay all their support for us through the past few weeks.

“It's really good to be going back home because it saves us travelling far away and it feels like it’s time to go home so we’re looking forward to seeing everyone.”
