INTERVIEW | Connor Robinson reacts to Wakefield result

Try scorer Connor Robinson was content with the way Doncaster held their own against Wakefield Trinity on Sunday afternoon and hailed his opponents, dubbing them the standard the club wanted to reach.

The halfback grabbed the only score during the 42-6 defeat to the Championship heavy hitters and understood it was always going to be a tough ask. However, proud of the way the Dons stuck in when times got challenging, which will be a big learning curve as the season progresses.

"We weren't bad today. Everyone had written us off from the start and we spoke about competing and not waving the white flag. I know 42-6 can look like that, but I thought we played some nice rugby at times and we stayed in the game. When it's quick for them, they are going to get you on the front foot. They train 3 or 4 times a week. It's part and parcel of learning.

"In the first 10 of the second half, we scored, and we got a foothold on the game. That's what we've got to do. Kick into corners, force errors, as they did to us."

Enjoying the ride back in the Championship, Robinson is loving testing himself against some of the best teams in the competition. For him and the Dons, it's about raising standards each week and learning on the job whilst competing for the badge.

"You want a test every week. There's no point in beating someone 60-0 and then having two weeks off; it's boring. The lesson for us is talking about how they played and punished teams. They're what we want to be doing."
