PREVIEW | Dons v York RLFC Knights

The eagerly awaited Betfred Championship opener between Doncaster RLFC and York RLFC Knights at the Eco-Power Stadium is days away as the Dons make their return to the second tier of rugby league after their promotion in 2023.

Richard Horne's squad has undergone significant enhancements during the off-season, with notable acquisitions such as Pauli Pauli and Craig Hall poised to make their league debuts for the Dons, injecting fresh talent into the squad ready to make their mark.

The opponents, York RLFC Knights, will also arrive with their own new reinforcements, including experienced winger Tom Lineham and the promising Leeds Rhinos prospect Tom Nicholson-Watton, who both joined the Knights this week ahead of Sunday’s Yorkshire derby showdown.

The clash also holds the potential for some individual milestones to be broken, with Doncaster's halfbacks eyeing personal achievements. Connor Robinson is on the brink of reaching 1500 career points, while Ben Johnston is just two tries away from notching up 100 since his debut over a decade ago. The pair will be essential for Horne this year as they try to unlock defences and guide their troops around the park.

As the white rose rivals prepare to clash for the first time since 2018, anticipation is palpable among the 14 clubs in the division. With both teams aiming to kick-start their campaigns with a victory, the stage is set for a fiercely contested battle.

This fixture marks the beginning of what promises to be an intensely competitive Championship season, with the stakes higher than ever ahead of the IMG era.

Tickets are still available online for fans eager to witness the Dons' inaugural match of the 2024 season against one of the league's big hitters. COYD!
