NEWS | Dons squad visits new High Performance Centre for pre-season testing
The Dons squad were put through their paces at the new High Performance Centre at the Eco-Power Stadium as preparations for the 2024 Championship season commenced.
Richard Horne and his players visited the newly-opened facility, which has been created in a partnership between Club Doncaster Sports College and University Campus Doncaster.
The High Performance Centre boasts a vast array of specialist equipment, allowing athletes access to treatment and training not readily available while also providing sports science pupils to gain valuable experience with state-of-the-art facilities.
The Dons players took part in testing to assess fitness levels and conditioning at the start of pre-season and allow Horne and his coaching staff to map out the coming weeks in the build-up to the start of the new campaign.
Dons strength and conditioning coach Ed Miles said “Having access to the High Performance Centre will be a valuable asset for us this season.
“Firstly, it will allow access to some of the best sports science equipment in the industry to measure strength and power and secondly, provide valuable feedback about where all our players are physically.
“This will enhance our strength and conditioning programme and assist our team in getting the players into the best shape possible for the coming challenge in the Championship.
“The recovery suite and massage clinic will be a great luxury - helping our boys with recovery from the hard slog of pre-season and after tough games.”
The new facility was stocked after consultation with strength and conditioning coaches and physios to ensure pupils graduate with the best possible experience in the sector.
Sports College principal Adi Turnpenny said: “This is a further sign of the fantastic partnership between Club Doncaster Sports College and DNGroup.
“The Centre will be a real asset to our students who will work with the Doncaster sporting community at all levels as part of their degree programmes.
“Studying here at the Eco-Power Stadium allows our students to learn in a live sporting environment that can only benefit their educational experience.”
Members of the public are able to access a variety of treatments throughout the week, to further enable students to gain valuable work experience.
