NEWS | Smeaton shortlisted for League One Player of the Year

Captain Sam Smeaton's fantastic try scoring season has been recognised as he makes the shortlist for Betfred League One Player of the Year.

The Dons captain has been in fine form this season notching up 20 tries, breaking the record for most tries in a season from a Dons forward. A record previously held by Kevin Parkhouse set in the 1985/86 season.

This record breaking season still isn't over and Smeaton has one more game to add to his already impressive tally, that game being the Betfred League One Promotion Final. Doncaster RLFC will face off against the winner of Hunslet RLFC v North Wales Crusaders at the Eco-Power Stadium on Sunday, September 24 at 3pm.

Smeaton will be looking to top off a fantastic personal campaign by clinching promotion with his hometown club to the Betfred Championship.

The Dons forward will be up against Reiss Butterworth (Dewsbury Rams), Martyn Ridyard (Oldham) and Paul Sykes (Dewsbury Rams) for the award.
