NEWS | Roberts giving everything to impress

Dean Roberts says he’s been determined to take his chance in the Dons team over the past couple of weeks.

Having missed out on selection for the opening game of the campaign against Hunslet, Roberts has featured in victories over both Oldham and Rochdale Hornets.

On reacting to disappointments:

“It hurt to not be involved in the first league game, when you miss out it is a bitter pit to swallow but it just made me more determined to take my chance.

“I had a point to prove and that was to show I’m here for a reason, I’ve had good feedback from the coaches in recent weeks so it’s about kicking on now.

“I’ve learnt from mistakes I’ve made in previous spells, so every time I go out there in training or games I know I need to be at my best.

“We’ve got a lot of competition for places in the forward positions and I think it brings out the best in me knowing my standards have to remain high.”

On aiming to progress in the cup:

“We’ve got a lot of character which we’ve shown so far, players are digging in and sticking to the processes even when it might be difficult.

“We don’t want to be complacent by picking up wins because we know that performances need to keep getting better as the season goes on.

“We’re coming up against the strongest sides in our division in these first few weeks and I think that is helping us get a really good marker for where we’re at.

“The cup is always special and it’s a tough ask to get to a stage where the Super League sides come in, but that is the dream for us all and we’ll give everything to make it happen.”
