In a series of opposition previews, we will be looking at the teams the Dons will be coming up against in the 2023 campaign.

Next up is Midlands Hurricanes.

Dates for your diary

The first meeting between the two sides in 2023 takes place at the Eco-Power Stadium on Sunday June 4 before the Dons make the journey to the Midlands for the return fixture on Sunday, July 23.

Results in 2022

Richard Horne’s side ran in eight tries at the Eco-Power Stadium to take a 48-20 victory in the first round of the 2022 season. Jason Tali got over the line twice with Connor Robinson, Misi Taulapapa, Aaron Ollett-Hobson, Ben Johnston, Jack Sanderson and Leon Ruan all joining him on the scoresheet. Robinson also kicked eight goals on the day.

In the return fixture, Ruan, Robinson and Tali all got on the scoresheet again as Watson Boas, Greg Burns and Tom Halliday joined in on the act to complete a 52-18 victory and a league double in the process.

2022 campaign

After losing the first game of the campaign at the hands of the Dons, it would take until the third round of the year for the Hurricanes to taste victory when they took a comfortable 60-14 win at Cornwall.

They would go on to win another five times throughout the season, losing 14 matches to finish eighth in the Betfred League One table  with 12 points to their name.

Head Coach

Richard Squires was appointed as, what was then, Coventry Bears head coach at the start of the 2021 season after stepping up from his role as first-team coach in 2020 following the departure of Tom Tsang to London Broncos.

In November 2021, the club rebranded to become Midland Hurricanes and Squires has stayed on which means he is now entering his third season in the head coach role.

Season tickets for 2023 are now available and could cost you as little as £30, that's just £3 per game. A child's (aged 17 and under) season ticket is priced at just £5 and comes with the Dons passport giving youngsters the opportunity to receive free gifts throughout the season.
