NEWS | Tali chasing records

Jason Tali says he has his sights set on making history with the Dons, but first wants to ensure the team reach the Betfred League One play-off final this weekend.

The Papua New Guinea centre scored twice against North Wales Crusaders last time out, to move into second in the club’s all-time tryscoring list, and to within 12 of Mark Roache who currently leads the way with 111 to his name.

On chasing records:

“It was a great moment to move into second place and have my name right up there in the history of the club because it means a lot to me.

“Myself and Carl are really close and I’m sure he wasn’t too happy to be moved down to third, but also happy that it was me going above him.

“I’ve already set my sights on the record, I know if I keep doing what I’m doing then more tries will come and I can push myself to be top of the list.

“I want to make history here for my family, I’m on 99 tries now and to make it 100 this weekend would be an unbelievable feeling.”

On a massive game this weekend:

“It’s a crucial game for us as a club. We’re all looking forward to it after last weekend and we’re ready to go.

“We know how important it is to get a final at home if we can, so that is all the motivation we need heading into Sunday’s game.

“We’ve done a lot of travelling in the play-offs in recent years whereas this time around we know we’re in control of our own destiny.

“We’ve won at Swinton this season so we can take confidence from that, we know the areas we exploited and how we can impose ourselves on them.”
