NEWS | Horne looking forward to season opener

Richard Horne spoke to the media ahead of this weekend’s Betfred League One opener against Midlands Hurricanes.

Horne is hoping his side can do the basics right to earn two points at the Eco-Power Stadium.

On getting off to a good start:

“We’ve tidied one or two things up from our last game. We want to be a little bit more direct and precise in possession.

“Everyone is ready now after a long pre-season, it’s been a bit of a wait and a stop start few months but we’re looking forward to it.

“We know that we won’t be at our best in round one, but there are areas we’ve worked hard on that we want to see pay off.”

On adding bodies to the group:

“We spoke about being light in the middles against Whitehaven and we’ll have a lot more size in there on Sunday.

“Dean Roberts is available after being cup-tied and then we’ve secured Keelan Foster and James Davies as well which was important.

“Loui McConnell has been doing a great job at Featherstone so it’s pleasing to be able to bring him back to the club.

“The hope is with those numbers back in that we can be more solid and tighter in the pack.”

On what he expects from the Hurricanes:

“They’re full of energy and a team that relies a lot on confidence. If you give them any encouragement they can hurt you.

“They’ve got the likes of Benn Hardcastle and Dave Scott who can cause problems if you allow it.

“We need to limit our errors and penalties when they’re coming out of their own end, as well as keeping hold of the ball when we have it.”
