MATCH PREVIEW | Dons v Midlands Hurricanes

The Dons get their 2022 Betfred League One season underway against Midlands Hurricanes at the Eco-Power Stadium on Sunday.

Richard Horne’s side are looking to go one better after falling just short in last season’s play-off final against Workington Town.

Up to 11 players could make their league debuts for the club, with the likes of Connor Robinson, Robbie Storey and Leon Ruan all set to feature alongside their fellow new recruits.

The game will be Sam Smeaton’s first since being appointed as Dons captain, following the departure of Brad Foster to Betfred Championship side London Broncos at the end of last season.

The visitors will be playing their first game as the Hurricanes after rebranding from Coventry Bears in the off-season.

Four former Dons players could go up against their former side, with Matty and Liam Welham, Dave Scott and Russ Spiers all in the Hurricanes’ ranks.
