NEWS | Horne: we need to be better

Richard Horne says his team must continue to improve after their 50-10 victory over West Wales Raiders at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The Dons ran in nine tries on their way to their first win of the new campaign, but Horne felt there were plenty of areas to fix up.

He said: “It was frustrating to watch and we didn’t start the game very well, and that was probably a reflection on the warm-up as we looked a little bit flat.

“All week we’ve spoken about approaching the game with the right attitude and making sure we’re mentally ready as well as physically.

“We made errors in our opening three sets which put us under pressure, so when we did get the ball it was tough to shape up and play.”

Horne was full of praise for Sam Doherty and Ross Peltier who shared seven of the nine tries between them.

He added: “Sam is very reliable when carrying the ball out of yardage and to add to that he takes his opportunities when they come along at the top end of the field.

“When we shaped up and got our plays on we scored some really good tries, Ross Peltier gave us a lot off the bench with his strong carries.”
