NEWS | Horne praises Trojans spirit

Richard Horne gave credit to Thornhill Trojans after they pushed his side all the way in the Coral Challenge Cup third round tie.

Watson Boas’ try two minutes from time secured the win for the Dons, and Horne says the amateur side can feel hard done by.

He said: “I would say the better team probably lost, they dominated the first-half and most of the second despite us starting that better.

“We backed it up with errors and penalties and that put us in a position we didn’t want to be in, credit to Thornhill I thought they were outstanding.

“They played with a lot of energy and put us under a lot of pressure, we didn’t react to it as well as we would have liked.”

After half-backs Rangi Chase and Matty Beharrell both sat out the game at the Tetley’s Stadium, Horne is hoping to have the pair back in contention for the first league game of the season next weekend.

He added: “We’re hoping to have a few bodies back for the North Wales game, Rangi has been ill all week so we didn’t want to risk him picking anything else up.

“Matty isn’t too far away either, we’ll see how he is this week and hopefully he could be available for that first league game.”

Tickets for the Dons first home league game of the season against Barrow Raiders at the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday March 1 are available now from tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
