The Dons take on Betfred Championship side Batley Bulldogs in the Coral Challenge Cup fifth round this weekend.

Richard Horne’s side have overcome Coventry Bears and Featherstone Lions to reach this stage of the competition, while Batley knocked out amateur side Lock Lane at the fourth round stage.

Who’s the gaffer?

Matt Diskin took over at the Bulldogs at the start of the 2017 campaign after the departure of John Kear to Bradford Bulls. Diskin had a distinguished playing career, making more than 250 appearances for Leeds Rhinos and winning four Super League titles in the process. He moved onto Bradford in 2011 and spent three years at Odsal before calling time on his playing career.

Ones to watch

Dave Scott

The full-back will be well known to Dons fans after spending two seasons with the club between 2013 and 2015. He scored 250 points during his time at the Keepmoat Stadium, before signing for the Bulldogs. Scott is also a Scotland international, representing his country at the 2013 and 2017 Rugby League World Cups.

Wayne Reittie

Reittie also made his name with the Dons in 2008, averaging almost a try every other game for the club before joining Hunslet. He is now in his second spell with the Bulldogs after initially joining them in 2011, with his try-scoring exploits seeing him cross the whitewash more than 70 times for the club.

Dom Brambani

An experienced half-back, Brambani started his professional career with Castleford Tigers in 2004, before moving to Halifax two years later. Spells with Sheffield and Dewsbury followed, before he returned to the Eagles in 2012. That proved to be the best period of his career, as he scored close to 800 points for the club before joining Batley in 2016.

Last time out

The Dons were beaten 36-34 by Matt Diskin’s side in a pre-season friendly ahead of the 2018 season. The Bulldogs had raced into a 36-16 lead, before a late surge from the Dons almost saw them secure victory in the last few minutes.
