REPORT | Whitehaven 26 Dons 8

17th March 2019

The Dons were beaten 26-8 by Whitehaven at the Recreation Ground in Betfred League One.

Richard Horne welcomed back the likes of Hakim Miloudi, Sam Doherty and Jason Tali to the starting XIII.

In a closely fought first-half, points were hard to come by as both teams traded sets as they looked to edge in front.

It was the Dons who struck first with 24 minutes on the clock, Matty Beharrell broke through the line and supplied the pass to Matty Chrimes who finished well in the corner.

The Dons were temporarily reduced to 12 men just before half-time, as Connor Bower was sent to the sin-bin for a late shot on Sam Forrester.

Whitehaven took advantage of that with two tries in the space of seven minutes at the start of the second-half, with the first coming when Jason Mossop supported a break to cruise over.

Jake Moore was the next to go over, as a kick through bounced favourably for the back-rower and he stepped his way over. Moore converted his own score for 12-4.

Richard Horne’s side responded five minutes later, as Beharrell once again produced some magic and found Jason Tali who went over from close range.

The home side extended their lead when powerful centre Jessie Joe Parker somehow found space down the right and danced his way over.

Haven secured the win with five minutes remaining as Dion Aiye crossed, with Connor Holliday kicking a late penalty to add more gloss to the score-line.
