Richard Horne felt the best team won after the Dons were beaten by Workington Town in the Betfred League One play-off semi-final.

The Cumbrian side won 30-18 at the Keepmoat Stadium, to bring the 2018 campaign to a premature end for the Dons.

He said: “We made too many errors and gave away too many penalties, I thought their middles were good and our last tackle plays weren’t good enough.

“We’ve done well to get 10 wins on the bounce going into the game so it’s disappointing to finish in the way we’ve had.

“They didn’t make many errors whereas we were trying to force a few things, we needed the rucks to be quicker and we couldn’t adapt.”

Despite the result, the head coach says there were plenty of positives to take from the season overall.

He added: “It would have been nice to have kicked on but we will use this to motivate us for next season.

“The boys will get an opportunity to go and rest up and then come back ready to rip into a pre-season campaign.

“There are a lot of positives to look back on, we’ve retained some really good players and we’ll be looking to add to that in the off season.”
