Richard Horne felt there were plenty of positives to take from the defeat against York in Betfred League One.

The Dons went down 31-16 at Bootham Crescent, but the head coach was pleased with the commitment on show from his side.

He said: “It was a great effort from both teams after going down to 12 men in the first five minutes, we managed to put on a good show.

“It was close and at 19-16 could have gone either way, but Matty Marsh came up with a special play for them to take it away from us.

“We gained a bit of momentum but an error let them back into it, they went from one end of the field to another and that hurt us.”

Scrum-half Matty Beharrell created two tries on his debut for the club, and Horne was pleased with how the new recruit settled in.

He added: “It was tough for him as we were a man down, but we made it simple to allow him to adjust to how we play.

“Matty will get better with the way that we do things, the shapes we want from him will suit him and we went a little bit away from that.

“There were a lot of positives to take from the game, we were in it for large parts and things went against us at key times.”

The Dons face West Wales Raiders at LD Nutrition Stadium on Sunday July 15, you can purchase tickets now from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576, or at
