The Dons were defeated 26-14 by Toronto Wolfpack in their final game of the Kingstone Press League One Super 8s, meaning they would have to wait on other results to ensure they made the play-off places.

Richard Horne’s side sprung a surprise early on and took the lead after 10 minutes. Jordan Lane, making his Dons debut after joining as part of the dual-registration system from Hull FC, received a great flat pass from Hakim Miloudi close to the line and had enough space to touch the ball down. Jack Miller added the two to extend the lead to 0-6.

The Wolfpack hit back just a few minutes later after a cut out pass found Jonny Pownall on the wing and he put the ball down close to the corner post.

Miloudi was proving to be a real threat in attack for the Dons and he had another assist to his name as he set up Kyle Kesik to go over for the Dons second try. Miller added the two to make the score 4-12.

The Dons did well to see the rest of the half out with some strong defence, which meant they went into the half time break with an eight point lead.

Toronto got back into the game inside the opening 10 minutes of the second half, half-back Blake Wallace spotted a gap in the Dons defensive line to go over the try-line. Craig Hall added the two to make it 10-12.

The Dons were then awarded a penalty and chose to go for goal, Miller slotted over the two points to extend the visitors’ lead.

The Wolfpack then levelled the scores shortly before the hour-mark, Pownall got on the end of a pass from QLT and had enough time to put the ball down in the corner.

Pownall then went on to complete his hat-trick just eight minutes later, receiving another pass from his full back to put the home side in front for the first time. Hall added the two to make the score-line 20-14.

Toronto then began to take control of the game and had their fifth try when Liam Kay forced his way over after some good work down the left. Hall converted once against to wrap the game up for the Wolfpack at 26-14.
