PREVIEW: Doncaster v Hemel Stags

1st July 2016

Doncaster Rugby League return to Pitch Two at the Keepmoat Stadium in the final home game of the regular season on Sunday (3pm).

The Dons welcome bottom of the table Hemel Stags, looking to secure a top four finish in Kingstone Press League 1 ahead of the Super 8s.

Last weekend’s victory away at London Skolars secured Doncaster a place in the Super 8s, with the victory ensuring Gary Thornton’s side can finish no lower than eighth place.

A top four finish would ensure the Dons get home advantage in four of the seven Super 8 matches, which will commence from the weekend 22nd-24th July.

That will be secured at the weekend if Doncaster beat Hemel and Keighley Cougars lose away at Rochdale Hornets.

Head coach Thornton has a selection headache with Sam Doherty looking to keep his place in the side after a hat-trick against the Skolars last weekend.

Makali Aizue who missed last Saturday’s win due to compassionate leave could return and Jason Tali will face a late fitness test looking to shake of a thumb injury.

The likes of Mitch Vincent, Kieran Cross and Aaron Jones-Bishop are also all looking to force their way into the side.

Matt Nicholson and Brad Foster however will both be missing with kne injuries.

Hemel come into the match with only one win all season, which came back in April against South Wales Scorpions.

They have lost their last eight matches in a row, which has seen them slip to the bottom of League 1.

The Stags have conceded 122 points in their last two matches alone at the hands of Barrow Raiders and Rochdale Hornets.

Brad Delaney, who spent time on loan with Doncaster earlier in the season is now at Heme on a similar deal and he could come up against his former teammates on Sunday.
