PREVIEW | Horne confident ahead of Newcastle tie

Richard Horne says his side must be clinical in the play-offf tie at Newcastle Thunder this weekend.

The Dons travel to Kingston Park on the back of two straight wins to finish the regular campaign, and the head coach is confident in his side’s ability.

He said: “Both teams like to play expansive rugby so there will be points and drama on offer, we know what’s at stake so we have to take our opportunities.

“If we can get the chances then we back ourselves to take them, the team that is most clinical will come away with the spoils.

“The aim for us is just to win the game, we’re not thinking about having a second chance and that has made this weekend a really important game for us.”

With Newcastle having plenty of experienced players in their squad, Horne believes the Dons’ defence will have to be strong throughout.

He added: “There is a lot of threat in their side, defensively we’ve been very good in the past couple of weeks so we will need to step that up again.

“Newcastle throw a lot at you and we will have to be smart in the way we defend, they will punish us if we give them half a yard.

“We’re growing as a team and we’ve shown with our recent performances that we’re getting what we want from games.”
