Frankie Mariano says the Dons will head into the Betfred League One play-offs full of confidence after securing a fourth-placed finish.

The Dons beat Workington Town 30-4 on the final game of the regular season, and the back-rower says it was a good team performance.

He said: “The boys worked really hard, our defence probably won us the game as we limited them to barely any opportunities.

“They had a big pack and we went out from the start with a good attitude and really took the game to them.

“The middles did the hard work early on and that meant we found a lot of space on the edges which is where the first try came from.”

Mariano recently returned to the side after missing a large part of the season through injury, he says it feels good to be back out on the pitch.

He added: “It’s been great to get back out there over the past few weeks, it’s never easy watching from the stands especially for a long period of time.

“The first couple of games tested me in terms of my fitness levels but I’m feeling much better now with the more game-time I get.

“We can’t take our foot off the gas, we’ve found that momentum now at a crucial time of the year with the play-offs coming up.”
