The Dons were beaten 40-14 by promotion chasing Oldham in Betfred League One.

Richard Horne made just one change to his starting line-up, with Richie Owen replacing Matty Beharrell.

It was the Dons who got off to the better start and they scored the games’ first try when Jordan Howden’s kick through was collected by Sam Doherty who did well to ground the ball in the corner.

It took Oldham just four minutes to show a response, as Liam Bent crashed over from close range to put his side in front via Paul Crook’s conversion.

They were in again soon after, as former Keighley full-back Richie Hawkyard jinked his way to the line to extend the lead.

The Roughyeds went further in front with 26 minutes gone, as former Dons man Danny Langtree got on the end of Gareth Owen’s break to score.

There was still time for a second Dons try in the opening 40, as Doherty was again the man to go over, this time being first to Owen’s kick to go over.

Two tries in the opening 20 minutes of the second-half all but sealed the win for Oldham, as Crook and then Cameron Leeming both went over.

Matty Wilkinson then got in on the act as a ball through bobbled into his path and gave him the simple task of getting a hand to it to score.

The Dons weren’t going to give in lightly and scored their third try of the game when Russ Spiers powered his way over under the sticks for his second score in as many games.

Oldham would have the last laugh though as an offload close to the line put Gareth Owen through a gap to seal an impressive win for Scott Naylor’s side.
