We could not have brought in anyone better than Luke Briscoe: Horne

Luke Briscoe was irreplaceable in the Dons squad according to head coach Richard Horne.

Briscoe has signed a new two-year deal with the club following two successful campaigns in the blue and yellow.

Head coach Horne said in plotting the composition of his squad for a top four challenge during the 2026 campaign, retaining the winger’s services was easily the best option.

Horne said: “We talk about trying to bring the average age of the group down but the question you ask is can I realistically sign someone better for us than Luke Briscoe?

“I think we know the answer to that one.

“The way he challenges defences, the way he comes out with the ball, the tries he scores and how important is for us both on the pitch and off it.

“He’s a massive player in the group with his leadership qualities and the way he sets an example with how he carries himself.

“Luke’s incredibly tough. He takes the knocks, gets back up and gets on with it. That’s pivotal in this division and it’ll be huge for us as we look to take steps forward next year.

“Having players like Luke on board for next season is going to be really important for the club and I’m really pleased we’ve managed to sort this.”
