The Dons would like to thank all fans and supporters who braved the bitter cold on Tuesday night to attend the EGM. It was a very positive meeting with a great turnout, and the head count was in excess of a hundred.
The player in question was revealed to the audience as 30 year-old Paul Cooke. The Hull born player scored the winning try for Hull FC in their famous 2005 Challenge Cup Final victory over Leeds Rhinos at the Millennium Stadium.
Cooke, who can play at either stand-off or loose forward, has represented Hull FC (1999 - 2007), Hull KR (2007 - 2010) and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats (2010) and has almost 300 Super League appearances under his belt. In this time he has scored over 1100 points for these respective clubs.
Cooke, who has been out of action for a year due to personal reasons, has told the Dons' management that he is willing to fit in with their match payment structure if they can secure him with a full-time position within the Dons' successful community development section.
However, the club have made it clear that they can't afford to finance this deal by themselves. The Dons have got a strict pay structure in place and are not willing to break it.
The club are therefore appealing to local and regional businesses and their fans to pledge financial support to enable the Dons to further strengthen their squad for the 2012 season.
Head coach Tony Miller, who originally called the meeting, said: "Paul would be a revelation for the club and would bring a tremendous level of experience and skill with him.
"He's an honest bloke, he freely admits that he has made mistakes in the game, but he has got his life back on track and wants to put something back into the game.
"The response to the meeting has been fantastic and our fans and supporters have showed great promise with the pledges they have made so far.
"However large or small, any donation you make to the squadbuilder scheme will be greatly appreciated and can have a significant impact on the club's ability to sign Paul Cooke."
The squadbuilder is a financial scheme which enables Dons' fans and supporters to actively contribute in any way they can to help secure new signings for the club. Please click here to download the form.
