We want to ensure that the hosting of the Rugby World Cup 2021 here in Doncaster will create a sustainable programme where people of all ages and abilities enjoy participating and supporting in the sport.

An opportunity has arisen for an exceptional candidate to fulfil the role of Rugby League Legacy Development Officer. Working closely with a number of organisations, but primarily hosted within Doncaster Rugby League Club, the successful person will be responsible for working within all areas of the region to develop and promote Rugby League as a sport and use the tournament as a real catalyst to participation and engagement across the borough.

The successful applicant will be required to plan, review and implement a wide range of initiatives to engage Doncaster and its surrounding areas before during and after the Rugby World Cup 2021, in addition to the coaching of the Club Doncaster Sports College Rugby League team.

Candidates should be able to clearly express the following qualities within their application:


  • Level II rugby league coaching qualification
  • Previous experience of working within a community capacity building role
  • Prior experience of working within player development environments
  • An understanding of sports environment and the ability to engage all persons during positive and testing times
  • Knowledge of the local economic landscape and barriers to engagement


  • Good communication/listening skills
  • Organisational skills
  • IT literacy
  • Flexible approach and good time management skills


  • Previous experience of coaching within educational establishments
  • Previous experience of mentoring staff members
  • Teaching / mentoring qualification
