REACTION | Horne: discipline cost us

18th March 2019

Richard Horne felt discipline let his side down in the defeat to Whitehaven in Betfred League One.

The Dons lost 26-8 at the Recreation Ground, and the head coach says they need to stay focused on the task in hand.

He said: “It was a frustrating afternoon for us, we didn’t complete our sets often enough but kept ourselves in the game until half-time.

“A 15-7 penalty count against us tells it’s own story, we couldn’t generate any momentum once we got the ball.

“I don’t think their tries were that creative, we missed tackles and allowed them to get into dangerous areas.”

With conditions tough to play in up in Cumbria, Horne believes the home side adapted better on the day.

He added: “They handled the conditions really well and knocked out sets, it wasn’t really a day for expansive rugby which is one of our strengths.

“Our contact needs to be better so defensively we’ll work on that, the penalties given away for dissent are workable.”
