Experienced former Castleford and Wakefield outside back Richard Owen joined the Dons at the start of the 2018 season.

He settled straight into Richard Horne’s side and was instrumental as the Dons won their first five games in all competitions. Owen grabbed his first try for the club in the 34-0 win over Newcastle Thunder in the Challenge Cup fourth round tie at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The 28-year-old moved to the wing for the game against North Wales Crusaders, as the Dons got back to winning ways following a defeat at home to York City Knights a week earlier. His try midway through the second-half ensured the two points for the Dons as he got on the end of a swift move to touch down.

Owen doubled his tally for the season when the Dons faced Hemel Stags at the Keepmoat Stadium, as he scored a try in both halves to contribute significantly to the 60-0 victory. He missed the next two games through injury but returned to the starting XIII for the away wins at London Skolars and West Wales Raiders, before back-to-back defeats against Hunslet and Oldham.

The second-half of the season saw Owen move to the wing position on a more permanent basis. It paid off immediately as he scored a brace of tries away at York, but that proved to be in vein as the home side ran out 31-16 winners at Bootham Crescent. He went on to open the scoring in the record breaking 102-6 win over West Wales Raiders at the LD Nutrition Stadium in July.

He scored his eighth try of the season as the Dons beat Coventry Bears 46-4 at the Butts Park Arena, in a game where he was used in the full-back position. He made it back-to-back try-scoring performances a week later, as he touched down the Dons’ second try in the win against London Skolars at the Keepmoat Stadium. Owen suffered a rib injury in the away win at Whitehaven, but returned to the starting line-up to score in wins over Keighley Cougars and North Wales Crusaders away from home.

Dons 2019 season tickets are now on sale, and can be bought from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576 or at
