PREVIEW | Horne eyes mental toughness

22nd September 2018

Richard Horne believes his players will have to be ready mentally as they prepare to take on Workington Town this weekend.

The game will be a dress-rehearsal of the Betfred League One play-off semi-final on September 30, and Horne wants his players to rise to the occasion.

He said: “It’s going to be one of those games where neither team will want to give too much away, but for us it’s important to keep our momentum going.

“We’ll review and analyse where we can get better and look at the opposition on how they work, we will probably mix it up a bit.

“It’s about having the mental edge with getting that first result, they will have to overcome the long journey down which can provide its own problems.”

Horne is coming to the end of his first full season in charge of the club, and has been happy with the progress the squad have made.

He added: “I thought we started the season really well, a few things went against us and we dropped off slightly which hurt us in terms of league position.

“Credit to the boys, they’ve worked hard and managed to perform well and get us back where we want to be towards the top end of the table.”
