Jordan Howden believes the Dons need to be smarter in games after being beaten by York City Knights.

The stand-off scored the Dons’ third try of the game, but couldn’t prevent a 31-16 defeat at Bootham Crescent.

He said: “We worked hard for each other, but a few errors early on in the game cost us towards the end but I think we can be pleased with certain things.

“We were up against it with 12 men but you just have to deal with those things, we lost a middle and it took a lot out of us.

“Their back three are really good and I thought Ash Robson had a really good game, they’ve managed to have a consistent team out all season.”

Howden played alongside new signing Matty Beharrell for the first time in the halves, and says there were early signs of a good combination forming.

He added: “He’s a good player and it makes my job much easier when he’s controlling things on the other side of the field.

“I thought to say we’ve only had a couple of training sessions together since he signed, we looked quite controlled during the game.

“We have to be able to read each other on the field and know what’s going to happen, something so simple could turn a game on its head.”
