Betfred League One

The Dons earned a comfortable victory as they beat West Wales Raiders 70-18 in Betfred League One.

Richard Horne made five changes to his side, with Jordan Howden, Jack Miller, Ross Osborne, Connor Bower and Frankie Mariano all coming into the starting XIII.

The Dons wasted no time in taking control of the game, as prop forward Connor Scott made a break and had the skill to round full-back Matt Davies to go over under the sticks. Jack Miller converted for 6-0.

Scott was causing problems for the hosts just three minutes later as he once again broke the line, this time Jack Downs was the man to profit as he cut inside from the right to score.

Miller then got in on the act in what was a dominating opening period from the visitors, the scrum-half created the try himself, racing 40 metres and evading a number of defenders to go over.

Good work from Ross Osborne then won the Dons a penalty 10 metres out from the try-line, and the prop forward finished off his own hard work with a barge over the line from close range. Miller converted for 22-0 after 17 minutes.

The Dons continue to flow forward and scored again when Richard Owen made a break from full-back and provided Frankie Mariano with the pass to go over for his first try in Dons colours.

Richard Horne's side had their sixth try inside the opening 25 minutes when Kyle Kesik spotted a gap out of dummy-half and went over with ease. Miller converted from in front of the sticks.

Two tries in the final 10 minutes before half-time put the Dons further in control, and they both came down the left edge with Aaron Jones-Bishop and Jason Tali both touching down to continue their fine form.

The Dons started the second-half in the perfect fashion, Osborne collected the ball close to the line and went over for his second under pressure from the Raiders' defence.

Tali then went in for his second with just six minutes played after the break, he collected a pass from Connor Bower before brushing off three defenders to cut in from the left and score. Miller converted for 54-0.

The visitors went over again three minutes later, a high-ball from Miller caused problems for the Raiders and Jason Muranka was on hand to collect and dart over the line.

The home side pulled a try back with 52 minutes gone, as Connor Farrer collected the ball from dummy-half and squeezed his way over.

It wasn't long before they were in for their second try as Liam Silver picked up a loose ball on the half-way line and raced 50 metres to go over under the sticks. Shaun Tennant converted for 58-12.

As the game entered the final quarter, Sam Doherty made up for having a try chalked off for a forward pass as he strolled in down the left moments later for a walk-in try.

The second-half proved to be a much more even affair and the Raiders went over again when Steven Parry worked himself into space and dived over the line.

Muranka then completed the scoring with four minutes left on the clock, he pulled away from two West Wales men to go over and take the Dons to the 70-point mark.
