PREVIEW | Horne looking forward to Newcastle clash

16th March 2018

Richard Horne says Friday's Challenge Cup tie against Newcastle Thunder will be another test of his side's credentials.

The Dons are unbeaten so far in 2018, and Horne believes they will have to be at their best to progress further in the competition.

He said: "We're improving every week and will get better, we haven't had too much thrown at us just yet but we need to be ready for when we have a lot of defending to do.

"The boys had a pool session on Monday as part of their recovery which will hopefully make sure they are fresh for the Newcastle game.

"There has been a fair bit of video shown to them on how we can hurt Newcastle, and then we've been putting that into practice out on the field as well."

The game against the Thunder is the first of two in the space of 10 days between the two sides, and Horne reckons whoever wins the first encounter could benefit psychologically.

He added: "We'll both get to have a good look at each other over the two games and correct some things ahead of the second game, both teams can assess what adjustments they need to make.

"The boys will probably get the weekend off after the game to relax with their families, and then we'll be at full throttle for the week after preparing for the next league game.

"I'd have liked it to be another league game this week to carry on our momentum, but it's another chance for us to test ourselves against a quality outfit."
