PREVIEW | Boyle wants to lead by example

Ryan Boyle wants to lead by example both on and off the pitch, after being appointed as the Dons captain for the 2018 season.

Boyle signed from Halifax at the end of last season, and led Richard Horne's side out in the pre-season game against London Broncos last weekend.

He said: "It came as a shock when Rich gave me the call and told me he wanted to appoint me as captain, i've picked up more leadership qualities over the past few years as i've progressed through my career.

"I played a lot with Andy Lynch at Castleford and he was a great leader, i learned so much from working with him and that will help me in this role.

"I try to find a balance between having a laugh and a joke because i want it to be fun, but then i like to get to training early and be a good professional and treat the club with the respect it deserves."

The Dons face Betfred Championship side Batley Bulldogs this weekend, and the forward is looking forward to going up against another strong outfit from the league above.

He added: "They're a tough team who have gone well over the past couple of years, Matt Diskin has got a good set of players and they're a really big middle unit.

"It will be a good chance for us to test ourselves and see where we're at, it's better to be playing a team like Batley because we want to be where they are now.

"A win would put us in a good place ahead of the league season, we want to go into the Coventry game with some momentum and get off to a good start."

Tickets for the game against Batley are available from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762 576 or at
