Kingstone Press League One Super 8s

Craven Park

The Dons fell to their second defeat in a row in the Kingstone Press League One Super 8s as they were beaten 14-10 by Barrow Raiders in a game played in treacherous conditions in Cumbria.

French full-back Hakim Miloudi came in for his first appearance for the Dons, while Nick Rawsthorne and Ryan Jones retained their place after scoring against Keighley Cougars in the opening game of the Super 8s.

The Dons took the lead in the opening minutes of the game, Pete Green played the ball to Brad England who showed good strength to go over in the corner. Jack Miller added the two with a touchline conversion for 0-6.

Miloudi was proving to be a danger man for the visitors and almost created a try when he raced 60 metres before supplying a pass for Jones who was caught by a chasing defender just metres from the try-line.

Barrow had the majority of possession in the first half and the pressure eventually told after almost half an hour, as Jamie Dallimore raced from 40 metres out to get the home side’s first try. The half-back added the two to bring the scores level at 6-6.

Heavy rain in Cumbria didn’t effect either side’s attacking intent, with both teams coming close before half time, but ultimately they had to settle for going in level at the break.

HALF TIME | Barrow Raiders 6–6 Doncaster RLFC

Barrow had the chance to go ahead inside the opening few minutes of the second half. Lewis Charnock chose to go for two from a penalty but fired his attempt wide of the sticks to keep the scores level.

The home side were awarded another penalty in an identical position just moments later, they again opted to go for goal and this time it was Dallimore who stepped up to successfully convert.

The Dons fell further behind in the 53rd minute as Brett Carter was played in down the left and he made no mistake with his finish. Dallimore added the two to make it 14-6.

Handling errors were a feature of the second half for both sides but the Dons managed to reduce a deficit with 10 minutes remaining as Miller picked up the ball close to the line to go over. The scrum-half missed the resulting conversion to leave the score at 14-10.

The Dons kept on looking for a late try to get them something from the game, but it wasn’t too be and they left Craven Park empty handed.
